Reader Response Draft 1

The DJI Mavic 3 Pro is a professional drone camera. It features next-level imaging performance as it has triple-camera system which ushers in a new era of camera drones by housing three sensors and lenses with different focal lengths. The drone is equipped with Hasselblad camera and dual tele cameras. Hasselblad is a Sweden company that produces digital medium format cameras and lenses. The Mavic 3 Pro is a triple-camera drone that unlocks new shooting perspectives, capturing fascinating scenery, explore photographic storytelling, and making cinematic masterpieces. The DJI Mavic 3 Pro, equipped with a groundbreaking triple-camera, revolutionizes professional drone technology, offering enhanced imaging capabilities and unlocking new creative possibilities.

A major feature of the DJI Mavic 3 Pro includes the new obstacle detection and APAS 5.0 sensors (Advanced Piloting Assistance System). It allows you to fly even in complex environments, featuring eight wide-angle vision sensors and powerful computing engine sense obstacles. This feature makes flying closer to objects safer, and the drone can even react and avoid objects, then return to course. It is DJI’s most crash-proof drone yet if that’s a thing. It also gets the updated ActiveTrack 5.0, another feature we saw improved (DJI Mavic 3 Release, Matt Meisenheimer).

Another major feature of the DJI Mavic 3 Pro is the Hasselblad Camera. The Hasselblad camera shoots 5.1K/50fps and 4K/120fps with a f/2.8 - f/11 range. The 10-bit D-Log M mode records up to a staggering one billion colours. Inheriting the 4/3 CMOS Hasselblad camera of the Mavic 3 Series, Mavic 3 Pro is the next step for professional creation. The Hasselblad camera supports shooting 12-bit RAW photos with a native dynamic range of up to 12.8 stops, presenting unforgettable image details. The Hasselblad Natural Colour Solution (HNCS) accurately restores the colours the human eye perceives, getting impressive shots without the need for heavy post-production or complex colour presets (The Drone Shop, n.d.). This is further supported by Apple ProRes codec support, with built-in 1TB SSD and a 10Gpds lightspeed data cable.DJI Mavic 3 Pro features a transmission distance of up to 15 km with stable signals, presenting a more coherent camera view. It can also transmit a 1080p/60fps HD live feed, which makes the Mavic 3 Pro more responsive to your control and gives you a more vibrant video feed on your monitor.

The disadvantages it faces are its immense price, compared to its first Mavic, it is three times the price. Controlling the framing of your drone footage can sometimes be tricky. For example, if you are manually following a car on a road that is riddled with curves, you will need to move the aircraft forward and backward while also yawing to keep it centered. This is much easier if there are two operators, one pilot in command (PIC), and a camera operator (also known as Drone DOP). It also lacks mechanical shutter. Why is the mechanical shutter so important? Most notably, it removes the rolling shutter effect in aerial photography. For this reason, the DJI Phantom Pro v2.0 is one of the most popular drones for professionals who work in aerial mapping and photogrammetry projects. Having a mechanical shutter translates into less distortion, which gives more accurate results in maps and 3D models. Drones such as the Yuneec Typhoon H, the DJI Inspire, or the DJI Mavic 2 Pro offer the possibility of using dual operators. Thus, the Mavic 3 has suffered a downgrade in this sense, as its predecessor had that feature available.

In conclusion, there is no doubt the Mavic 3 is an incredible drone. The fact is, you get a micro-4/3rds sensor, 5.1K 10-bit video, 46 minutes of flight time, and some of the best obstacle avoidance out there with the Mavic 3. Of course, there are a bunch of other features, but those are some hard hitters and the ones most users will appreciate the most. All of the other things just build into the experience, like Occusyn 3+, the new controller, the hybrid zoom, and ActiveTrack 5.0. If you opt for the CINE version, you’re getting a super high-quality ProRes 422 HQ codec, capable of producing cinema-grade footage. But I think that version will be overkill for many.
